Not Sure If You're Too Drunk to Drive? CDOT Has an App for That

Police Lights 20150813 172419 1The Super Bowl may be over, but there are plenty of events and holidays coming soon that people like to celebrate with drinking. Valentine’s Day, St. Paddy’s, Spring Break, Cinco de Mayo – and moving forward into 2017, you should do what you can to plan out your holiday drinking so you avoid DUIs.

Fortunately, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has you covered. If you have a smartphone, tablet or other device that supports Android or iOS, you can download the app R-U-Buzzed. The app allows the user to enter in information on their weight, gender and how much they drink during the night to help them avoid DUI. The app also estimates how long, based on the information you provide, you have until your blood alcohol has reached a level to where you would be safe driving.

If the app estimates that your BAC is above .05, you should find alternative transportation – though the best practice would be to avoid driving entirely after drinking, as the app can only offer an estimation of your actual impairment.

Another bonus for using the R-U-Buzzed app – it pairs directly with all of your favorite ridesharing apps, including Uber and Lyft, and even provides promo codes for first time users (CDOTRideSafe for a free first ride with Lyft up to $20 and NODUICO for a $20 first ride credit with Uber.
