Happy Memorial Day! Follow These Tips to Stay Safe and Avoid a DUI!

BLOG DUI My Teenager Was Ticketed for Minor in Possession Now What PHOTOEnjoying your three-day weekend? Us too! But you should know that Memorial Day is one of the most dangerous days to be on the road – in fact, it begins a period of time known as the “100 Deadliest Days.” Commit to responsibility today, and if you plan on drinking, follow these safety tips to make sure your Memorial Day festivities go off without a hitch.

  1. Designate your driver. Make sure someone stays sober so that you are able to get home without risking a DUI. If nobody plans to stay sober, make sure you arrange for an alternate way home. Take a cab, ride the bus, call an Uber.
  2. Make sure that you wear a seat belt at all times. Even as a passenger; even in the back seat.
  3. Distracted driving is a serious threat. Keep your phone out of reach if you are driving. Don’t text, don’t talk on the phone. Even hands-free setups are shown to increase the odds of getting into an accident. If your designated driver is texting while driving, make sure to inform him or her of the risks.
  4. Respect the speed limit. You might feel the need to put the pedal to the metal for whatever reason (running late, for example) but staying within the limit helps you react in the case that something goes wrong, for you or for another driver. Think of your passengers.
  5. Pay attention. Many of the above tips can be folded into this one. Stay alert – you never know what’s going on in the cars around you.

Know that law enforcement will be out there in full force today looking for any signs of impaired driving. Be prepared, and enjoy your holiday!
