D’oh! DUI?: Sloppy Somnambulism

BLOG DUI Doh DUI The Parked Car DUI PHOTOOur latest “D’oh! DUI?” is a drowsy doozy coming out of San Diego. A 25-year-old woman was arrested for suspicion of DUI after a short chase down the highway.

The first sign that the woman was intoxicated was that her car came to a stop in the middle of the highway, with traffic flying by on all sides. Vigilant passersby called 911, and some attempted to reach the car and speak with the woman inside. It didn’t take long for a police officer to come across the scene. He approached the vehicle and tapped on the glass with his flashlight.

The driver did not respond. If the officer could hear her, he might’ve heard snoring – for the dozing damsel had fallen asleep behind the wheel.

Tensions peaked when the vehicle, sleeping driver in tow, began to roll forward. Panicked, the police officer chased along the side of the vehicle, shouting at the woman in an attempt to wake her. When it became apparent that she was not going to awaken, the officer smashed the window with his flashlight, climbed inside and put the car in park.

Once the woman was conscious, she showed signs of physical impairment – slurred speech, disorientation and problems balancing. She was arrested after being brought to safety by officers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates roughly 100,000 crashes occur in the U.S. every year because of drowsy driving. This case goes to show – if you’re tired, you shouldn’t drive. If you’re intoxicated, you shouldn’t drive. If you’re both? You definitely shouldn’t drive. If you do, and you get pulled over, you should contact a Denver drunk driving attorney as soon as possible.
