Denver DUI Lawyer Explains Your Rights

What do DUI defense attorneys do when representing a client for a drunk driving charge? Our lawyers follow a process designed to find the holes in the case and identify ways in which police may have violated your rights while making a DUI arrest. By doing so, we ensure the police are following all proper procedures when they are on the job. In this video, Denver DUI lawyer Jake Johnson explains one path that your drink driving case may take and the process that police must follow to lawfully charge you with DUI.

If you would like to discuss your DUI or other alcohol-related driving charges with a dedicated Denver DUI attorney, you can reach our law firm at (720) 542-6148 or through our website.

Well, the first thing we’re going to do is we’re going to look to see whether or not the police had a right to make contact with you in the first place. They can’t just make contact with you for no reason. You have to have actually violated a traffic law. So we’re going to look and see if there’s any way to try to get it thrown out from the get-go. After that, we’re going to look at their contact with you, particularly if it’s on video, we’re going to see what they have, see how you look, and try to argue that there was no reason for the police to go from the initial contact to asking you to take a blood or breath test. After that, if the police get that far, we’re going to go through, we’re going to look at the questions they asked you. Did they make it clear to you what was going on? Did they follow their cues from the prompt card that they have and ask you all the right questions? Because that, at the end of the day, you have to give a valid refusal so you have to have understood your options and then refused. For more information, go to our website at
